ICAO Investigates Potential Cybersecurity Breach
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a key United Nations agency responsible for setting global aviation standards, is currently delving into a potential cybersecurity breach. On Monday, ICAO announced that they are “actively investigating reports of a potential information security incident allegedly linked to a threat actor known for targeting international organizations.”
The situation arose after a user on a well-known hacking forum claimed on January 5th to have accessed a trove of 42,000 documents from ICAO. These documents are said to contain sensitive personal data such as full names, dates of birth, home and email addresses, phone numbers, and even details about education and employment histories. Alarmingly, some records may pertain to ICAO employees.
