Welcome to Woven City: Toyota’s Bold Vision for Innovation
Imagine a city where the future unfolds right before your eyes, nestled at the base of Japan’s magnificent Mount Fuji. This is Woven City, Toyota’s ambitious project and living laboratory, brimming with cutting-edge startups and technology. Unveiled by Toyota Motor Chairman Akio Toyoda at CES 2025, Woven City is more than just a dream—it’s an open invitation to innovators worldwide.
- Woven City set to launch in fall 2025
- Pitch competition and scholarships available
- Focus on autonomous vehicles, air taxis, and rockets
“Today, I say to anyone in any corner of the world, inspired or excited to make a difference. Make a change or make it count. Please consider this your official invitation to join us at Woven City.”
{Akio Toyoda}
Woven City is not just about technology; it’s about creating a community. Scheduled for launch in the fall of 2025, this prototype city is actively seeking creative minds to bring new ideas to life. This summer marks the beginning of a pitch competition, offering scholarships to those needing financial support.
Originally unveiled five years ago at CES 2020, Toyoda’s vision has grown from a utopian city featuring Toyota’s autonomous e-Palette shuttles and robots to include revolutionary concepts like electric air taxis and even rockets!
Toyoda openly addressed potential skepticism about profitability, stating:
“I know what you are thinking with this Woven City, will make Toyota any money? Well, maybe not, but that’s okay. As global citizens, I believe Toyota has a responsibility to invest in our collective future.”

The foundation for this vision was laid in February 2021 on the former site of Toyota’s Higashi-Fuji Plant. The first phase includes buildings designed for “co-creation” activities where employees, scientists, entrepreneurs, and retirees will live and work together.
While initial construction progresses, plans for Phase 2 are on the horizon but will incorporate learnings from Phase 1. Already, innovators like WbyT have joined this venture alongside discussions with giants such as ENEOS Corporation and Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation.
If you’re ready to be part of something extraordinary—where innovation meets community—Woven City might just be calling your name.
