Meet Mirumi: Yukai Engineering’s Latest Quirky Creation
Yukai Engineering, the innovative minds behind the quirky Qooba cat pillow, have once again pushed the boundaries of robotics with their imaginative designs. Remember Amagami Ham Ham, the peculiar little robot that offered a “somewhat pleasing sensation” by gently nibbling on fingers? At CES 2025, Yukai introduced its newest creation, Mirumi, a whimsical addition to their lineup that promises to capture hearts with its delightful antics.
Mirumi is a charming furball designed to attach to your purse and “delight bystanders” as it spontaneously turns its head, all in an effort to “steal a glance at a nearby person.” This playful interaction is inspired by the irresistible charm of infants. As Yukai describes, “Mirumi moves its head in several different ways to express its curiosity, bashfulness and other baby-like qualities and emotions,” recreating the joy of noticing a human baby trying to interact with you.
- Inspired by mischievous spirits of Japanese folklore known as Yokai
- Utilizes motion and proximity sensing technology
- Responds to taps and movements of the bag it’s mounted on
“Designed to re-create people’s joyful experiences of noticing a human baby as he/she tries to interact with them.”

The imaginative conception of Mirumi emerged from an internal “Make-a-Thon.” Drawing from the enchanting world of Yokai—mischievous supernatural spirits found in Japanese folklore—this playful bot scans its surroundings using sophisticated motion and proximity sensors. It responds dynamically to taps and movements, adding an element of surprise and interaction to everyday life.
