OpenAI CEO Sam Altman Reflects on Boardroom Turmoil and Future Plans

In a candid interview with Bloomberg, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman shared his thoughts on the former board members who unexpectedly dismissed him late last November. Altman expressed his frustration, stating, “All those people that I feel, like, really messed up both me and the company were gone, and now I had to clean up their mess.”

Just over a year ago, OpenAI’s previous board decided to remove Altman, citing a lack of consistent transparency in his communications. However, according to Altman, the board soon reversed their decision under intense pressure. He agreed to return only under the condition that the entire board step down.

“I was like, ‘All right, now I’m really done,’ because that was real deception,” Altman remarked when Twitch co-founder Emmett Shear unexpectedly took over as OpenAI’s CEO.

The interview also shed light on intriguing aspects of OpenAI’s journey and future ambitions. For instance, the company once considered charging $42 per month for ChatGPT. Additionally, Altman hinted at plans to disclose more details about OpenAI’s chip strategies this year.
