Nvidia’s Bold Leap into Robotics with Jetson Thor in 2025

Nvidia, a leading force in chipmaking, is making significant strides into the robotics sector in 2025. According to the Financial Times, Nvidia plans to unveil a new series of compact computers for humanoid robots, dubbed Jetson Thor, in the first half of the year. This move aligns with their evolving strategy that has been unfolding over several years.

  • Focus on OEM support for robot makers
  • Leveraging breakthroughs in generative AI models
  • Utilizing simulated environments for robot training

“Hundreds of thousands of robot makers worldwide can benefit from our technology,” explained Deepu Talla, Nvidia’s vice president of robotics, during a recent press briefing in Tokyo.

While Nvidia doesn’t aim to compete directly with manufacturers like Tesla, their strategy is to empower a broad base of robot developers with foundational technology. Talla attributes the timing of this release to two major technological advancements: the rapid development of generative AI models and enhanced capabilities for training robots through simulated environments.

Interestingly, Nvidia’s expansion into AI-driven robotics also coincides with efforts by major clients like Amazon and Google to reduce reliance on Nvidia’s AI chips by developing proprietary technologies.
