Tesla Cybertruck Explosion Near Las Vegas Hotel Raises Questions
A tragic incident unfolded just outside the Trump International Hotel Las Vegas when a Tesla Cybertruck exploded, resulting in one fatality and seven injuries. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) has identified Matthew Alan Livelsberger, a 37-year-old active duty U.S. Army Green Beret from Colorado Springs, as the primary suspect. His military ID, credit cards, and passport were discovered in the vehicle.
- Livelsberger rented the Cybertruck through Turo in Colorado.
- Video footage places him as the driver at Tesla Supercharging stations en route to Las Vegas.
“We have now confirmed that the explosion was caused by very large fireworks and/or a bomb carried in the bed of the rented Cybertruck and is unrelated to the vehicle itself,” said Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

Law enforcement continues to delve into various leads, with Sheriff Kevin McMahill mentioning a connection to another tragic event in New Orleans without drawing direct links. “With an explosion here on iconic Las Vegas Boulevard, we are taking all of the precautions that we need to take to keep our community safe,” McMahill stated during a press briefing.
The Cybertruck was rented via Turo, a peer-to-peer car-sharing platform likened to Airbnb for vehicles. A Turo spokesperson expressed heartbreak over the incidents in both Las Vegas and New Orleans and emphasized their cooperation with law enforcement.
Elon Musk, who owns both Tesla and X, thanked McMahill for his collaboration and reiterated that Tesla’s internal data showed no malfunction with the vehicle itself. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities ensuring there are no additional threats to the community.
