CoreWeave Expands Globally: A New Chapter in the U.K. Tech Scene
CoreWeave, a powerhouse in the cloud computing arena valued at an impressive $19 billion, has taken a significant step by launching its first European data centers in the U.K. This marks its initial foray outside of the United States, where it has firmly established its roots. The company moved to strengthen its global presence by opening its European headquarters in London last May, following a substantial $1.1 billion funding round that pushed its valuation to new heights.
With today’s announcement, CoreWeave has officially unveiled two data centers in the U.K., reflecting a £1 billion ($1.25 billion) investment commitment in the region. This expansion aligns with the U.K. government’s new five-year investment strategy aimed at enhancing AI computing capacity and developing “AI Growth Zones” incorporating private sector infrastructure.

CoreWeave’s inaugural U.K. data center became operational quietly in Crawley this past October, with another hub launching in London Docklands come December. Both facilities are equipped with Nvidia’s cutting-edge Hopper GPUs from their H200 series, engineered for high-performance computing (HPC) and AI-specific workloads.
Established in 2017, CoreWeave initially focused on crypto mining but pivoted as demand for AI compute resources surged. This involves the processing power and infrastructure essential for tasks like running algorithms and executing machine learning models. The company repurposed its GPU infrastructure to cater to these advanced needs.
