Bluesky Unveils Trending Topics Feature in Beta
On Christmas day, the social network Bluesky introduced its latest feature: trending topics, now in beta. This exciting addition is accessible on both desktop and mobile apps. On a desktop, you’ll find trending topics conveniently located on the right sidebar. If you’re using a mobile app, simply tap the search button to explore them.
Currently, this feature is available exclusively in English. For those who prefer not to see trending topics, you can easily disable them by navigating to Settings > Content and Media and unchecking the “Enable trending topics” option. An added benefit is that any words you’ve muted will also be filtered out from your trending topics feed. This means your personalized muted list will seamlessly carry over to this new feature.
With over 25 million users, Bluesky has rolled out this as just the initial version, promising enhancements over time. Interestingly, while Bluesky is new to offering trending topics, third-party clients like Greysky had already implemented similar features last year.
“Bluesky’s launch of trending topics comes as part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing user experience globally,” said a company representative.

Meanwhile, Threads—a significant rival—began rolling out trending topics to U.S. users in March and started testing it in Japan by October. However, Bluesky’s approach is unique in that their test is available globally, allowing users around the world to engage with this new feature.
- Feature Availability: Desktop (right sidebar) & Mobile (via search)
- Language: Currently in English only
- Customization: Mute words carry over; option to disable
- User Base: Over 25 million users
- Global Test: Available worldwide
This marks a significant step for Bluesky as it continues to innovate and enhance its platform for millions of users worldwide.
